Our Programs

NSRIC provides a diverse array of educational offerings that encompass academic, practical, and skill-based programs. Each program level entails a maximum of 39.5 hours of coursework. While these programs do not confer diplomas or degrees, participants receive certificates upon completing the prescribed courses within their chosen level. The curriculum is structured into four distinct tiers: foundation, intermediate, advanced, and professional. Students have the flexibility to enroll in the level that aligns with their interests, competencies, and qualifications.

★ Foundation-level courses

The foundation-level courses cater to individuals who have graduated with a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate. Nonetheless, students currently attending school are also eligible for enrollment.

★ Intermediate-level courses

Intermediate-level courses are tailored to students holding a diploma, undergraduate degree, or graduate degree. This category encompasses individuals pursuing a degree or those who have recently entered the workforce (with less than two years of experience).

★ Advanced-level courses

Advanced-level courses are designed for students who have successfully obtained a diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree, or are currently graduate students who have yet to fully immerse themselves in the workforce. This level is intended for those with three to nine years of work experience who aspire to further enhance their skills.

★ Professional-level courses

Professional-level courses are targeted at individuals who hold a diploma, professional license, master’s degree, or doctorate in any field of study. This audience boasts a decade or more of workplace experience and seeks to secure higher-ranking positions, such as Executive Director, Superintendent, Director, and the like. Additionally, NSRIC offers on-demand courses, training, or programs upon request from companies, organizations, or firms. These customized offerings can be arranged in response to specific enterprise or organizational needs.

Classification of Courses

The NSRIC online education platform offers a diverse array of courses tailored to the specific needs and preferences of students and members. These courses are primarily organized into thirteen distinct categories, and detailed descriptions of each category can be found here. It is important to note that the duration of any designated course should fall within the range of 10 hours to 39.5 hours. Each lecture within a course should not exceed one hour, and a three-hour lecture can be conducted either in a single day or spread throughout the week.

If a course’s duration extends beyond this specified range, it should be segmented into different linked modules, such as Module I, Module II, and so on. Alternatively, it can be transformed into a course with a duration ranging from half to three credit hours. It’s worth noting that one credit hour corresponds to 12 lecture hours. If a planned course does not fit into any of the established categories, individuals should reach out to the NSRIC online education division for further assistance at info@nsric.ca

Computer Algorithm and Programming Program

The Computer Algorithm and Programming (CAP) platform at NSRIC is a prominent and tightly integrated component of our initiatives. Our CAP program is structured into two core sections: (i) algorithmics and (ii) computer programming. In the algorithmics section, students acquire proficiency in the systematic approach to problem-solving, while in computer programming, they develop the skill to craft a series of directives that guide a computer in executing a task. Additionally, a program can serve as the practical implementation of code, instructing a computer on how to execute a given algorithm.

The overarching objective of the CAP program is to empower students to excel in diverse domains of computer science, encompassing software development, application creation, web design, and more within the realms of algorithm development and computer coding.

Immigration and Workforce Training Program

The Immigration and Workforce Training (IWT) Program is a specialized training initiative within NSRIC. This program is expressly designed to assist students interested in obtaining education, training, and virtual work exposure in Canada to enhance their skill sets. Each program, spanning various fields of study, aligns with different National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes in Canada. The program encompasses a wide array of professions and is structured into four educational levels: foundation, intermediate, advanced, and professional. The maximum duration for each program is capped at 39.5 hours.

The program offers subjects that closely correspond to the skill requirements necessary for securing a work permit or express entry visa to Canada. Additionally, it endeavors to address the prerequisites for work permits and visas in other countries, including but not limited to Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, among others. The course materials are accessible to any aspiring students seeking to pursue opportunities as skilled workers in various international destinations.

The program is thoughtfully designed to assist and enhance the skill sets of permanent residents (PR) or potential immigrants who aim to augment their skills in alignment with the NOC occupations. It is flexible and adaptable to cater to a wide range of fields of study that support the diverse occupations outlined in the NOC for both Canada and other countries. Additionally, on-demand courses, training, or programs can be arranged upon request from businesses, agencies, or enterprises.

The minimum eligibility requirement for this program includes completing the equivalent of a 12th year of secondary school in Canada (such as the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) or being a mature student (at least 19 years old and having been removed from full-time high school for at least two years).

Language Program

★ ELD Program

The English Literacy Development (ELD) program caters to English language learners who have had limited chances to develop language and literacy skills in their native tongue. Literacy, in this context, refers to the ability to read, write, and speak in order to comprehend and convey meaning effectively in English. Our ELD program aligns with the curriculum established by the Ontario Ministry of Education, Canada.

The ELD program encompasses essential components such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also covers aspects like phonemic awareness, print awareness, and the correlation between letters and sounds. Additionally, the program addresses fundamental literacy skills including vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension.

Our Literacy and English framework promote the cultivation of critical and creative thinking, competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as personal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. These abilities are not only valuable in everyday life but are also highly relevant in the professional world.

The program also includes the Observable Language and Literacy Behaviours (OLLB). It serves as a valuable resource for English language learners who have experienced limited or interrupted formal education and require specialized English literacy development. The program defines English language and literacy proficiency development across three broad categories: (i) oral skills, (ii) reading abilities, and (iii) writing proficiency. Each of these categories adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Ontario language curriculum and the ELD curriculum. The Oral component focuses on listening and speaking skills, while Reading is structured around meaning, form, style, and fluency. The Writing segment underscores the writing process, starting from prewriting and idea organization, all the way to writing and editing. The Observable Language and Literacy Behaviours continua serve a dual purpose: to inform instructional planning and to monitor students’ language proficiency progress.

In essence, ELD has been thoughtfully developed to ensure that English language learners have the optimal opportunity to attain proficiency in English and achieve the high literacy standards expected of students worldwide.

Why Choose ELD Program

★ ESL Program

English as a Second Language (ESL) program offers international students the chance to learn or enhance their English language skills. ESL instruction encompasses four key areas: (i) Reading, (ii) Writing, (iii) Listening, and (iv) Speaking. Across North American educational institutions, nearly every Canadian school now embraces a diverse student population, with over 100 different languages spoken. These languages span Aboriginal, African, Asian, European, and English-related creole languages like Caribbean Creole or West African Krio. This rich linguistic and cultural diversity enriches the learning experience and fosters a global perspective.

However, this diversity also brings a growing number of students who arrive at English-language schools as English language learners. Our ESL program serves as a gateway for students seeking admission to various schools in North America, Australia, the UK, Europe, and other countries. These students embark on a journey to acquire proficiency in English, the language of instruction. The ESL curriculum has been meticulously crafted to provide English language learners with ample opportunities to excel in English and attain the high literacy levels expected of all students.

The ESL curriculum aims to achieve several goals:

Why Choose our ESL Program

★ FSL Program

The Ontario School Board in Canada mandates French as a second language (FSL) as a compulsory subject for students from Grade 4 to Grade 8. Additionally, secondary school students (Grade 9 to 12) are required to earn at least one FSL credit to be eligible for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Our FSL program offers comprehensive theoretical and practical training in French as a second language, equipping students with essential interactive skills for their professional growth.

Our instructional approach centres on communicative and experiential teaching and learning methods that directly apply to real-life situations. This program caters to both beginners and advanced students, delivering courses with specific learning objectives tailored to each training level. This approach ensures a continuous learning journey, taking into account participants’ communication needs, learning preferences, existing knowledge, interests, and abilities.

Throughout the program, students acquire grammatical structures and vocabulary essential for both professional and personal contexts. They also gain insights into French culture and francophone communities. Upon successful program completion, students will possess effective communication skills in both spoken and written French.

The program comprises two levels: (i) Foundation Level, which includes five basic French language courses, and (ii) Advanced Level, comprising 10 courses that fulfill the Ministry of Education’s requirements in Ontario, Canada. The advanced level FSL program aligns with and covers the curriculum set by the Ontario School Board.

★ IELTS Program

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam stands as one of the most widely recognized assessments of English language proficiency, especially for individuals for whom English is not their native tongue. An IELTS certificate holds global recognition and serves as tangible proof of one’s English language competence. This certification can unlock various opportunities, including immigration, academic pursuits, work permits, and a host of job prospects. Enrolling in an IELTS preparation course is an effective means to get ready for the exam while honing one’s English language skills.

IELTS is primarily taken by students and professionals with aspirations for higher education, securing work permits, or pursuing immigration to English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. It’s worth noting that there are two versions of the IELTS test: (i) Academic IELTS, tailored for students aiming to study abroad, and (ii) General IELTS, intended for individuals planning to settle in other countries as permanent residents. NIST offers both of these programs, each comprising four components: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Why Choose our ESL Program

★ TOEFL Program

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), commonly abbreviated as TOEFL, serves as an assessment designed to evaluate the English proficiency of non-native speakers aspiring to study in institutions where English serves as the primary language of instruction. Admission officers often rely on TOEFL scores to assess whether a student possesses the requisite level of English proficiency to excel in their chosen academic program.

The TOEFL examination typically encompasses four fundamental segments, which include evaluating listening skills, reading comprehension, speaking ability, and writing proficiency. While it was once referred to as the computer-based version (TOEFL CBT), the modern incarnation is known as TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test).

Our program is meticulously structured to aid students in honing the essential skills necessary for success in the TOEFL iBT test. It provides comprehensive coverage of speaking, listening, writing, and reading components. This course is intensive and demands dedicated effort, making it ideal for serious learners striving for an overall TOEFL iBT score of 100 or higher.

Our program goes beyond mere surface-level content delivery; it offers a profound understanding of the exam. Our experienced TOEFL iBT Instructors simplify and break down complex questions, making the exam more approachable.

Succeeding in the TOEFL iBT examination entails more than just possessing English language knowledge; it necessitates test strategies and tactics with a proven track record. Furthermore, since TOEFL iBT is an online examination, our program aligns with this format, allowing students to effectively prepare for the test.

Professional Development Program

The NSRIC Professional Development (PD) program constitutes a vital component of our overarching initiatives. PD, in this context, is characterized as “structured professional learning leading to changes in knowledge, practices, and ultimately, improved student learning outcomes.” We provide online PD courses tailored to assist professionals, early-career individuals, and students in enhancing their professional skills and bolstering their employability. When these PD experiences are integrated with students’ academic pursuits, our collective efforts ensure their readiness to excel in the professional realm, regardless of their chosen career path.

Research underscores a direct link between teacher competence and skill and student achievement, underscoring the significance of effective PD for various stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, parents, and students. Within the core of our PD program, we emphasize seven key parameters:

★ Tutoring Program

The NIST tutoring program stands as an essential component of our overarching initiatives, offering students a valuable opportunity to embark on a successful school year while bolstering their self-assurance. Our tutoring program is rooted in the principle of tailoring learning experiences to meet the unique needs of each individual student. To achieve this, we diligently assess each student’s requirements, subsequently crafting a personalized program ideally suited to their specific needs, instilling a sense of confidence to thrive throughout the school year.

NIST’s tailored tutoring programs are designed to assist your child in navigating the school year with confidence and achieving academic success.

Our program is meticulously structured, encompassing several crucial steps, from setting clear goals to developing a comprehensive curriculum. The process for launching a successful tutoring program at NIST entails the following steps: assessing needs, defining the mission, establishing goals and objectives, designing the program, selecting or adapting a suitable curriculum, providing dedicated support for our tutors, and executing the plans with precision. These steps serve as the foundation for the development of a tutoring program tailored to the unique requirements of your child or children.

While the NIST tutoring program predominantly focuses on core subjects such as computer programming, English, French, Mathematics, and Science, it remains open to all areas of study and all grade levels. We have the capability to craft customized tutoring programs tailored to each student’s specific needs.

★ Vocational Training Program

The NSRIC Vocational Training (VT) program stands as a central and well-integrated facet of our overarching initiatives. VT, in essence, encompasses training that is tailored to a particular occupation, providing individuals with specialized skills. Conversely, academic degree programs offered by colleges or universities tend to prepare students for a broader spectrum of entry-level roles within specific fields like business or IT. VT, on the other hand, is strategically designed to equip individuals with precise skills, often accompanied by certification or licensing, that are essential for pursuing specific career paths, such as hairstyling, construction electrician work, or culinary arts.

Given that vocational training programs are crafted to enable students to acquire profession-specific skills relevant to a wide array of career trajectories, a multitude of learning formats have been devised to accommodate the unique demands of each occupation. These specialized educational institutions, whether referred to as vocational colleges, technical schools, or career colleges, offer diverse options for those with specific career aspirations.
